Philosophy?  What's This All About??

My philosophy on web page design, actually.  If you're looking for what I think the meaning of life is, you'll have to check somewhere else.  But as far as page design:

bullet

Pages should be dialup friendly.  To this day, about half of US internet users are on dialup.   Why exclude half of your visitors from seeing what you have to offer them?

Animated gifs are fun, but they can get tiresome to the casual web surfer.   Static images can convey your message without overloading the visitor's CPU and/or bandwidth.

bullet

Judicial use of JavaScript, java applets and DHTML.  These three can also slow down the loading of pages, but with careful placement, they can be used to add life to a static page.  And I'm not talking about those cursor chasers.  Those do not convey an air of professionalism.  Save them for your Geocities/Tripod/Angelfire pages.

I design HTML pages, with some JavaScript, applets and a little DHTML for variety.  You might run into one or two of my designed pages with animated gifs, but I'll change those as I get time.   I also strive to design pages to be cross-browser friendly, realizing not everyone is using Internet Explorer*;  some surfers still use Netscape Navigator*, others use Opera* or Firefox*, and still others are running various and assorted clients on Mac and Linux systems (including Mozilla*, Safari* and Konqueror*).
